  1. In this sketch, if you notice the unusual shapes on the land where the ferry boat is headed, it is a powerful and touching monument to the 270 victims from Staten Island of the 9.11 tragedy. The name of the 50 foot high memorial is “Postcards” The two thin structures represent postcards sent to loved ones that died that day. Out of 200 applicants Mr. Masayuki Sono’s design was selected. As the sun passes each day it lights each victims profile in silhouette that includes their name, birth date and occupation. Many were firefighters. The two postcards frame ground zero when you look across the waters to Manhattan. The Staten Island Ferry boat takes you to the memorial’s location just to the right of the ferry terminal in Staten Island. (The ferry is free and goes appropriately right past the stature of liberty) Mr. Sono is from Japan and is a great example of a person from foreign soil that has contributed his excellence to enrich the lives of the people in America. He is not tearing down, he is building! I had the honor to meet him. He is a lovely fellow.
