1. Prisoner Robert Straud became a much respected expert of birds and their habits and illnesses etc. He wrote several books on the subject and raised birds in his prison cell.
   He was shipped off to Alcatraz where he was no longer allowed to raise and observe birds. Burt Lancaster plays him in the movies.
